This is a very special highlights video that we shot down in Mexico with Zarmeena and Zul. They are from Toronto and saw a same week video edit at a reception up there that we made in San Francisco. They enjoyed our cinematic style and unique approach to wedding cinematography so they gave us a call and it turns out that they were planning a destination wedding in Playa Del Carmen, just a few days after we had a wedding on Isla Mujeres! It was the perfect lining up of the planets. They were getting married in Mexico and we were already going to be there!
We spent three beautiful days on the island before heading to Cancun for three days to get some relaxation and clubbing time in! Then we went to the beautiful Princess Resort in Playa Del Carmen to meet up with Zarmeena and Zul. We had a pre-wedding trash the dress shoot that I shot with my GoPro camera. Unfortunately, it got too dark before we got there so we got a few shots but we were about 30 minutes late for the right light.
The day of the wedding we captured the bride and groom getting ready and I woke up extra early to spend an hour walking around the resort to get a ton of B-roll and establishing shots. Once the bride and groom were ready, we went to the venue which was a private golf club community with a secluded beach and that is where they held their wedding and reception.
The evening was filled with amazing activities and surprises. The food was amazing and there was a Mariachi band, photo booth, cigar lounge, a dessert table with a mix of Indian, Mexican, and American sweets, a ton of tequila, and even imported Heineken beer because apparently that is how Zul rolls! To top it off they had a fire dancing troupe that included West African drums, the same drums that I play from West Africa. Turns out the guys in the group studied with the same drum teacher as me, Bolokada Conde, and even recognizied me from some youtube videos. What a trip! Here I am filming a wedding and a whole dance troupe rolls up to perform right on the beach! That was a ton of fun for me. I am also happy with the steadicam shots I got during their performance.
The night ended with all the guests lining up outside to light large lanterns into the sky. Even though it was really windy, the group managed to get some up into the air and it was a beautiful site to see. As the bride and groom left for the night their friends and family lit sparklers and created a pathway for them on their journey to spend the rest of their lives with one another.
