What an honor it is to be chosen by a couple to photograph their wedding day. But almost even better is being invited over to their house a week after they have given birth to their first child to capture their first ever professional photo. I was excited to hear Melissa and Al were going to have a baby shortly after our engagement shoot we did last Spring. You could not even tell Melissa was pregnant during the wedding and their picture perfect wedding in Santa Cruz was a very fun event. Only 7 months later after they were married, this little guy was introduced to the world and Melissa and Al have named him Gavin. He was born a little early and was just a few ounces over five pounds, but he quickly gained some weight and will never be this small again. It is so important to capture a baby’s first portrait within the first two weeks of being born, as during this time they are peaceful and sleep a lot! It is during this time, they will only look this small and fragile, and soon they will gain lots of weight, mature, and take on a new form….One that has lots of photographic opportunities too, but something is very special about this first week of life.
