Amita + Simren | Engagement Ceremony

In Punjabi tradition, the engagement ceremony is also called Shagan, where the groom’s family brings gifts to the brides family. The gifts often include a punjabi suit, make-up,  jewelry. The most important gift is the chunni (a long scarf). The significance of the chunni ceremony is to begin the process of welcoming the bride into the family.

Amita and Simren’s engagement ceremony was a lot of fun and we had a great time shooting many special moments. Amita is a lovely girl with a beautiful smile and great expressions, thus making it easy to get some great portrait photos. We love to include a twirl shot especially if the outfit flares and twirls beautifully. We wanted to get some portraits of Amita with the chunni on as well,  shooting through the crystals of the decorations, we captured some quick beautiful portraits.

Amita and Simren have great chemistry and their photoshoot was a lot of fun to photograph. The sky was already dark when we went out for portraits so we used off camera flash and backlighting shots to create some artistic portraits. We got a mix of posed and candid moments with the couple. Can’t wait to photograph their Punjabi Sikh Wedding coming up later this year.
