I was super excited to capture Shreya and Akshai’s engagement ceremony in Half Moon Bay! Mavericks House is a sweet little spot right in the heart of Half Moon Bay overlooking the ocean and Marina.
The idea was simple. Find an outdoor venue where they could hold the engagement ceremony with just family. They had to have good internet so they could have relatives watch on Zoom, but also have the Priest direct the Poojas via Zoom as well! This is super 21st Century and I never thought things would happen like this until way into the future, but Covid-19 sure accelerated things.
It was a gorgeous summer day and we started with portraits of the couple while the family prepared all the items for the ceremony. Once the ceremony was ready to go and the Pandit was “live on the iPad over zoom”, the ceremony began. It was super cool to witness something like this and after a few short minutes of mantras, and the exchange of gifts, sweets, and garlands, the couple was engaged!
We did some more portraits and then this smiley and energetic couple changed outfits and we did a few more shots before calling it a day!
We love engagement ceremonies because it is a great way to meet a couple and their families. With just an engagement shoot you only meet the couple but with an engagement ceremony, you meet their parents and siblings. They get to see not only how you deal with portraits, but also how you capture the rituals and how easy you are to work with. If the couple has fun, there is a good chance they will call you for the wedding! The couple loved these images and how fast they received them, so we hope to hear from them when their wedding planning begins!
