Hayes Mansion is by far our favorite outdoor San Jose wedding venue! We were so happy to hear Diya and Atul were going to hold an intimate ceremony on the front lawn over the 4th of July weekend!
While the bride and groom got ready we go to check out the newly renovated rooms at the mansion! They are so much nicer now! We cannot wait for the Pandemic to be over because we think this will be one of the most popular venues for Indian weddings when things open back up.
Things were running a little behind so, unfortunately, we could not do the first look as originally planned. The groom did get a horse for the Baraat which was cool even though it is was a very small event with very few guests. The ceremony took place right in front of the mansion instead of on the side lawn. This was unique for us and only possible when there isn’t a lot of guests.
At the end of the ceremony, the Mandap fell over! Sadly, this could have been avoided and it is not the first time we have seen this happen. More often than we would like to admit, we see decor like this that is not professionally installed and uses weak, consumer materials, and isn’t properly weighted down. When this happens, a normal gust of wind can bring the Mandap down. Fortunately, no one got hurt and it happened in slow motion so we all tried to hold it up as it fell but we hope this is the last Mandap we see fall.
We did the bride and groom portraits during a very warm part of the day so we worked as fast as we could and used flash to fill in the shadows that are created by a bright sun directly overhead. This was important because, without those powerful flashes, they could not get really pleasing photographs like these.
They had a buffet lunch outside and guests gave speeches. This was great for the film, as it gave us, the necessary voiceovers we like to include in our highlight films. After a cake cutting and champagne toast, the day was over!
