Nita + Gaurav | South Indian Wedding at Livermore Temple

The traditional Hindu South Indian wedding is a deeply meaningful and symbolic combination of rituals and traditions. Each phase of the ceremony has a symbolic, philosophical, and spiritual meaning.The ceremony is traditionally performed in Sanskrit, which is the language of ancient India and Hinduism. Nita and Gaurav’s ceremony was performed both in Sanskrit and English. The ceremony was at Shiva-Vishnu Temple, Livermore.

Ganesha puja and Gauri puja were performed in the presence Nita, our bride. This puja is performed to remove obstacles and to bring good fortune to the bride. The bride offers prayers to the goddess Gauri seeking the blessings of prosperity and a long and happy married life.

Dhare Herdu symbolises handing over their daughter to the groom. Gaurav held Nita’s hand with coconut and beetle leaves, while her parents sprinkled the holy water on their hands. After that the mangalsutra was tied around Nita’s neck.

Saptapadi is the ceremony of Nita and Gaurav circle seven times around the havan or the holy fire.

Nita looked beautiful in a Fuchsia colored traditional Kanjeevaram saree, also called as Kanchipuram saree, popular in South India. she wore traditional gold  jewelry an ArmBand also called Vanki and gold waistbelt.
