Pooja’s Pithi Ceremony in Los Gatos

For a Gujarati bride the Pithi ceremony is perhaps the most fun! Friends and family paint the bride with paste made of tumeric and other ingredients to maker her skin more radiant on the wedding day. It is also just a lot of fun!

For this event everyone gathered at the bride’s home in the backyard and people took turns putting the paste on her while aunts sang songs about marriage. The highlight was when Pooja was completely covered and she attempted to give her brother and mother a hug and a kiss.

It’s events like these that make Indian weddings so much fun to photograph. Everyday we have a wonderful time and this day was no exception.
