Happy Spring! We are super excited to catch up on the blog and get this gorgeous three day event up! This is part 1 of 3 and we love these colors!
This was the first wedding of the year for us and we really happy to go up north to the Sacramento area and shoot at three new venues. The first event was the Nikkah, which is the Muslim wedding ceremony. This event took place at the bride’s home which is very common for Muslim weddings. The groom and his relatives arrived, along with the Imam, while the bride and her friends prepared for the ceremony. During the ceremony the groom and the male elders signed the wedding certificate and then brought it to the bride who then signed and agree to marriage. Once signed they could see each other and exchange rings. With this, they became husband and wife and the Imam recited versus from the Holy Koran.
Once the formalities concluded we did portraits outside her house. I especially love the one with her pitbull! Probably the sweetest pitbull I have ever met!
The next event took place at another location just a short distance from the bride’s home. At this event, known as the Mehendi, is a social gathering that included food, singing, dancing, and a number of performances for the couple by friends and family of the couple. The bride and groom also hold betel leaves and guests put Mehendi on top of them. After they have applied a small amount of Mehendi, they feed the bride and groom sweets to bless them in their new journey together. At a later time, bracelets are placed on the wrists of the couple, symbolically joining them together. It’s also a fun photo op!
