In the South Indian Hindu wedding tradition there are many rituals that are performed in the days leading up to the wedding day. At the bride’s home the day before the wedding, the two families gather to do a series of Pooja’s with the Pandit (Priest) who will be conducting the wedding ceremony. These Poojas, one of which is called, Paalikali Thalippu/Karappu are meant to ask for “blessings from the Gods” and to have a “wedding without obstacles”. The Pooja’s reflect the couple’s humbleness to the Gods and their wishes for a happy married life.
The sacred ceremonies are a very important part of Hindu religious beliefs and are very beautiful to photograph. We are so blessed to be able to be a part of these beautiful rituals and capturing historic moments in this couple’s history.
